But does vitiligo come from tanning? i only have it on my hands. it started at a little white patch on my knuckles like a year ago and now one is the size of a dime and another one is the size of a nickle. and i am also noticing some on my left hand. does this go away? did it come from tanning?
i was told i am going to need elidel cream and some kind of Laser treatment.?

  1. I am 15 and I have vitiligo on my legs, chest and back. I was diagnosed with it when I was 12 years old. I hated it. I wanted to be able to wear shorts with confidence and not worry about people starring at the splotches on my legs. I just wanted to be normal.

I hate to brake it to you, but tanning does not make it go away. The skin around the spots darkens, but the white stays white and becomes more noticeable. Plus, if you dont protect those areas with a good sunblock you can get skin cancer, on account of the white spots dont have any of the natural protection that the rest of the skin has.

I went to two dermatologists. The first, told me that it was never going to go away. That I would have it forever. And I beleived him for the longest time. I tried just about everything. Topical creams, I tried to tan to make it fade, the works. The light treatments were too pricey and wernt guaranteed results. Heck, I even tried self tanners and make up to try to hide the spots. But nothing worked.

The second dermatologist I went to, told me other wise. He was very optimistic and was a follower of God. He gave me a topical cream called Elidel (normally made for people with eczema) and he told me to pray. So I prayed and every day I thanked God for my healing. Even though I didnt visually see it, I thanked him anyways.

You see, the topical cream he gave me was suppose to soak into the spots and into the hairs on my legs. And kind of “dig” for color thats way beneath the skin, and eventually bring it up to the top layer. It didnt work for the longest time. But along with praying, I have recently had awesome results. The spots are filling in with tan dots and are shrinking. It gets better everyday. I live in Florida so I’m in the sun all the time. And even with sunscreen I tan. And the color is coming back,

So ask your doctor about Elidel. And pray. Dont give up hope. And until you see results, be confident with who you are. I have learned to accept it, and it makes me who I am. (Honestly, people think its cool.)

    I hope I helped :)
